1918. The Great War ended and the age of perpetual worldwide conflict began.
Old empires fell and new ones arose. And the face of orchestral music was transformed.
The MusicaNova Orchestra takes you through this watershed year with music from Claude Debussy, Hubert Parry, and Sergei Prokofiev,
and a world premiere marking the start of the next tumultuous century.

Connor Helms, MusicaNova Composition Fellow: Fugue No 1: Squaring the Circle
From a young age, Phoenix, Arizona-based Connor Helms (b. 1992) was encompassed in an eclectic musical blanket. Heavy influence on his compositions from various world musics can be traced from their sources, as well as Western composers who absorbed non-Western music. His work also bears strong influence from various jazz performers and arrangers, film and game soundtrack composers and orchestrators, and electronic music producers. Click here to meet the composer.
“The first movement in a series of 9 sacred geometry-based fugues, this piece is in ~65 bpm because the interplay of 6 vs 5 is half the ‘sacred secret.’ Whereas 6 is time and 5 is space, the dimensioned vs dimensionless, square vs circle, or 6660 inches is 555 feet.” Read more in the program notes
