About the Composition Fellows Program
The MusicaNova Composition Fellows Program seeks new, high-quality scores from emerging composers for orchestra or small ensemble works. They should be up to 15 minutes in length. Submissions will be evaluated by Music Director Warren Cohen, with the goal of selecting up to three Composition Fellows each season. All ages and nationalities are welcome, and score submissions are accepted year-round.
The MNO Composition Fellows Program stands out from most other programs for emerging composers, which culminate only in a reading session. MNO Composition Fellows are invited to come to Phoenix for rehearsal with the MusicaNova Orchestra and a performance before a paying audience. Composers from outside the Phoenix area will receive a $500 stipend to cover travel costs.
As part of the program, the Composition Fellow may participate in MusicaNova educational outreach visits to schools in the greater Phoenix area to talk about their work, their approach to music, and their life as a composer. The composer may also be asked to speak about the work at the concert.
Composition Fellows may conduct their own works at the performance, if appropriate, with coaching from the MNO Music Director. They will receive professionally produced audio and video recordings, without commercial use restrictions.
Recognition as an MNO Composition Fellow can be an important educational experience and a boost to your professional career. For further details or to submit a score for consideration, please contact MusicaNova Music Director Warren Cohen at warren.cohen@musicanovaaz.com.
