"Music & Pictures, Music & Words"

"Music is powerless to express anything at all"- so said Igor Stravinsky. And yet...music does tell stories, paint pictures and express emotions. Listen as one of the great musical story tellers, Richard Strauss, paints musical pictures to the words of Alfred Lord Tennyson's Tragic Poem "Enoch Arden". Read by Robert Altizer, a well known local bass-baritone, and Strauss' musical accompaniment realized on piano by Music Director Warren Cohen, this will be a most unusual musical event, and a wonderful prelude to the vivid musical performance that will occur on October 17th. The Piano Soloist Donna Amato, will be there and will answer your questions about her life and career as a "super-virtuoso." One critic described her repertoire as "piano playing as an extreme sport."

"Song-Personal Expression or Fantasy"

Is song a personal expression, or a fantasy? We ask Isola Jones and Carolyn Whitaker, about the role of the performer in the creation of the song... do you believe the words, even for a moment? And, they will sing solos and duets and talk about creating the song as a performer, while we consider some of the most incongruous song creations, such as White Christmas, written by the Jewish Irving Berlin while staying in Phoenix in the spring!
